2027 Exam Calendar Proposed: UTME in March, Most Results Targeted for August
Share

If you are planning to write a major exam next year, you may want to start marking your calendar. The Federal Government has presented a proposed harmonised timetable for external examinations in 2027, with a goal of releasing most results by August so that admission processes can begin in September.

One thing to keep in mind from the start: these are proposed dates, not a confirmed final timetable. The Federal Ministry of Education remains the final authority on any announcement.

The proposed dates

ExaminationProposed exam datesTarget result release
JAMB UTME15 to 25 March 2027March 2027
NECO SSCE1 April to 14 May 2027August 2027
WAEC WASSCE11 May to 18 June 2027August 2027
NABTEB1 June to 5 July 2027August 2027
NBAIS10 June to 9 July 2027August 2027

What stands out

UTME comes first, early in the year, and its results are expected in the same month. The school certificate exams follow one after another from April through July, and their results are all aimed at August. That is the part that matters most for admissions. When results from all the major bodies arrive around the same time, candidates should be able to move into tertiary admission processes by September instead of waiting on one late result.

Why the timetable is being harmonised

The plan was discussed at a meeting in Abuja, where Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, met with heads and representatives of the examination bodies. The conversation centred on three things: coordinating exam dates, reducing clashes in the timetable, and speeding up how results are processed and released.

The proposal forms part of the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI), under Minister of Education Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa. The ministry says it will keep talking with the examination bodies about the proposed schedules and about lining up result publication with the tertiary admission calendar.

What students should do for now

There is nothing to change in your plans yet, but it helps to start early. If you are a 2027 candidate, treat these dates as a rough guide and begin your revision with them in mind. Then watch for official announcements from JAMB, WAEC, NECO, NABTEB and NBAIS, since the final dates could shift after the ministry finishes its discussions.
