Medical students of Kaduna State University (KASU) have been named overall winners of the 2026 Nigerian Medical Students’ Association (NIMSA) North-West Regional Convention. The event took place at Northwest University, Kano.
The president of the KASU Medical Students’ Association, Faisal Salis, shared the news while presenting the award to the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi Ibrahim Musa.

How KASU came out on top
According to Salis, more than 20 medical schools from universities across Nigeria took part in the competition. KASU won by scoring the highest marks in each of the three rounds, which he said reflects the students’ academic strength and commitment to their profession.
He also thanked the university management for its steady support and said the quality of training at KASU played a big part in the result.
The Vice-Chancellor’s reward
Prof. Musa congratulated the students and called their win a source of pride for the university. He said management will keep backing academic excellence and encouraging students to join activities that build professional skills and promote healthy competition.
To mark the achievement, he approved ₦1 million for the Medical Students’ Association. The money is split into ₦100,000 for each of the four students who took part and ₦600,000 for the association itself.
A health outreach to follow
The Vice-Chancellor also asked the association to organise a health outreach programme in selected communities across Kaduna State. The university will sponsor it.
He said the aim is to extend the benefits of medical education beyond campus, so that people who need healthcare services can feel the impact of what the students are learning.
For KASU, the win adds to its record in medical education and its goal of producing capable healthcare professionals who can serve their communities.
