NUC Team Says UNILORIN Is Ready to Start Its Sustainable Development Studies Programme

NUC Team Says UNILORIN Is Ready to Start Its Sustainable Development Studies Programme

The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) is a step closer to launching a new course. A National Universities Commission (NUC) resource verification team has visited the school and said it is satisfied with what it found for the proposed Sustainable Development Studies programme.

The details below come from the university’s own report of the visit.

What the team found

The team toured the University Library and other facilities as part of the verification exercise. Afterwards, the team leader, Prof. Oladimeji Bolaji Adeniji, said the team was pleased with what it saw. He praised the university for providing up-to-date books and journals to support the programme, and said he was confident that it was ready to begin.

The report presented to the Vice Chancellor

In early October, the team visited the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, to present its report on the exercise. The Vice Chancellor thanked the team and said its observations and recommendations would help the university make sure the programme meets the required standards.

He also acknowledged that the report identified some gaps. He assured the team that UNILORIN would address them and carry out the recommendations in the report.

What comes next

Prof. Egbewole said the university is committed to widening its academic offerings and will treat the new programme as a priority. He linked it to the school’s wider efforts to promote sustainable development through teaching and research.

The report describes a verification visit and does not mention a final approval decision, so it does not say when students might be admitted into the programme.

What prospective students should know

If this course interests you, there is no need to rush. Wait for the university to announce when admissions open, and before you apply, confirm that the programme appears on the NUC’s list of approved programmes. That check protects you from spending time and money on a course that is not yet fully cleared.
