The African Aviation and Aerospace University (AAAU), Abuja, has set up a new unit to promote honesty and openness in how the institution is run. The university inaugurated its Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) with officials of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in attendance.

How the ceremony went

The event began with the introduction of guests. The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Mustapha Sheikh Abdullahi, then gave a goodwill message, welcomed the ICPC delegation and other participants, and gave an overview of the university’s vision, development and partnerships.

The Director of the ICPC, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, was represented by Olusegun Adigun, who stressed the importance of integrity and accountability in public institutions.

The swearing-in

The main moment of the ceremony was the swearing-in of the ACTU nominees. This was done by the Head of ACTU at the ICPC, Nkem Ezenwa, Esq., which formally established the university’s unit. The newly inaugurated ACTU Chairman gave a vote of thanks, and the Acting Registrar closed the event with remarks.

Why it matters

The university said the inauguration reinforces its commitment to transparency, accountability and ethical conduct. For students and staff, a unit like this gives the institution a formal structure to promote good practice, though its real impact will depend on how it works in the coming months.
