A graduate of Bells University of Technology, Ota, has been named the best female Food Science and Technology graduate in Nigeria. Miss Fariat Damilola Hamzat received the Dolapo Coker Award as the Overall Best Female Graduate in Food Science and Technology among Nigerian universities that offer the bachelor’s degree programme.

The award
The award was presented at the 50th Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference of the Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology (NIFST). The conference was held at the Welcome Centre Hotel, Lagos, from October 12 to 16, 2026.
Miss Hamzat was the 2024/2025 Best Graduating Student in the Department of Food Science and Technology and also in the College of Food Agricultural Science and Technology (COLFAST). The university said her result reflects her academic excellence, dedication and commitment to scholarship.
A second win for the university
Bells University of Technology also did well in the research section of the conference. Mrs Bolanle Esther Daramola, an Assistant Chief Technologist and doctoral student in the Department of Food Science and Technology, took second place in the poster presentation category.
The university said the two results show the quality of training, research and professional development in the department. It congratulated both winners, along with the Department of Food Science and Technology and COLFAST.
Why it matters
For students thinking about a career in food science, the story shows that a graduate from a single department can compete at national level, both in academic results and in research presentations.
